What you need to know about Smoke on the Square

Smoke on the Square, a two-day festival in downtown Franklin, kicks off on Friday, with a classic car show and barbecue vendors competing for your votes and continues on Saturday with more food, beer and music.

The event is hosted on the courthouse square off Jefferson Street in downtown Franklin.

Get there early to vote

The People’s Choice competition begins at 6 p.m. and allows people to try seven samples of pork for $5 from different vendors and choose their favorites. When the pork is sold out, the competition is over.

Cars and bikes

At 5 p.m. Friday, check out classic cars at the monthly Cruising the Courthouse event. On Saturday, Black Hearts Social will present Motorcycles on the Square. Registration is $20 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Bring the kids

A kids area will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Artcraft Theatre will also be showing “Smokey and the Bandit” at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Enjoy the music

Lemon Wheel takes the stage at 7 p.m. Friday, and then on Saturday, the Philo Beddoe Band plays at noon, Jaxson Deno follows at 3 p.m. and The Doo! takes the stage at 7 p.m. The Elks Club will be selling suds at the beer garden.
