Man arrested on burglary charges

A Greenwood man was arrested after police say he broke into a barn twice in the past two months to steal tools.

Dakota Paddack, 23, was arrested on a charge of burglary.

On May 4, the owner of a home on the 1000 block of West Main Street told police that $2,500 worth of tools, including a tree stand, power tools and drills were missing, a Greenwood Police Department report said.

Last week, the owner told police that the barn had been broken into again, with about $550 in tools being taken. After the first burglary, the owner had installed a security camera which showed Paddack, whose mother is a tenant of the homeowner, entering the barn around 3:30 p.m. June 14 and taking the missing items, the report said.

A relative of the homeowner told police that he confronted Paddack about the burglary after watching the video and that he had retrieved several of the items that had been stolen in May, the report said.

A search of pawn shop records showed that Paddack had pawned multiple items similar to the ones that had been reported stolen, the report said.

Paddack told police that he had taken items from the barn on Friday, but said he wasn’t involved in the burglary in May, the report said.

Paddack, 765 Wooddale Terrace, Apt. 11, was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail. He was held on $6,600 bond.
