Shepherd finishes fifth at Junior PGA

Staff Reports

Erica Shepherd turned in a final-round score of 69 on Thursday to earn a fifth-place finish at the Girls Junior PGA Championship in Lexington, Kentucky.

The 17-year-old Center Grove senior finished the tournament at 15 under par (273), nine shots behind winner Yealimi Noh of California.

Shepherd birdied the third and fourth holes before dropping back to even for the day with a double bogey on the fifth. She bounced right back with a birdie on 6, but then bogeyed the 12th.

Over the final six holes, Shepherd got back into a rhythm. She birdied 14 to get back in the red and then finished with birdies on 17 and 18 for the second straight day.

In each of her four rounds, Shepherd managed a birdie on the 18th hole.

Now, Shepherd turns her attention toward next week’s U.S. Girls Junior at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California. She won the tournament last year and is looking to become the second repeat champion in the last 44 years and the fifth two-time winner in the history of the event.
