Meeting planned to discuss air concerns

The city of Franklin is hosting a public forum to discuss concerns raised with air quality in the city.

The forum will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Franklin Community High School, 2600 Cumberland Drive.

At the forum, officials from the city, state and water company will discuss their work over the years to monitor former manufacturing sites and possible contamination, and their next steps.

Having that public discussion is necessary after testing ordered by a nonprofit group found some high levels of volatile organic compounds in specific areas and residents raised concerns.

The city has also asked the state to do additional testing of air quality.

Those results will not yet be available at the meeting on Friday, and officials are considering having additional meetings when those results are available.
