Edinburgh football falls at Brown County

NASHVILLE — Brown County junior quarterback Noah Carter’s arm and feet proved too much for Edinburgh.

Carter threw for four touchdowns and ran for another in the host Eagles’ 58-8 romp over Edinburgh in Friday’s season opener, which was slowed by two lightning delays. Carter ran 13 times for 92 yards.

Freshman running back Kody Walsh carried eight times for 114 yards, including a TD, for the Eagles, while receiver Jordan Oswald caught a touchdown pass and ran for a 25-yard TD before relieving Carter at quarterback in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles dominated all the way, leading 32-0 at half.

The game’s start was delayed 68 minutes due to heavy rain and lightning. After 53 seconds of action, play was delayed again by lightning for 45 minutes. When the game resumed, the Eagles’ first drive stalled on downs.

Following an Edinburgh punt, Brown County drove to take a 6-0 lead on Carter’s 1-yard run with 5:46 left in the first quarter. Carter’s 15-yard run and Walsh’s 18-yard run to set up the score. A two-point conversion attempt failed.

After a short punt gave Brown County the football on the Edinburgh 25, Walsh ran 21 yards on first down and Kaleb Popp scored on a 4-yard run on the next play to make it 12-0 with 11:17 remaining in the second quarter. The extra-point kick failed on the muddy field.

The Eagles boosted the lead to 20-0 on a 28-yard pass from Carter to Oswald and Carter’s two-point conversion run with 8:16 to go.

Following a Edinburgh fumble, Brown County took over at the Lancers’ 29. On third down, Carter connected with Devon Smith-Harden for a 24-yard TD with 6:25 left before halftime. The Eagles again scored with 16 seconds left in the first half on a 2-yard pass from Carter to Nicholas Huls.

Lancers starting quarterback Tyson Sackman was shaken up in the first two minutes of the third quarter, but he returned on the next Edinburgh possession.

In between, Carter connected with Brandon Fleischman for a 15-yard TD to make it 39-0. Walsh’s 5-yard TD boosted the lead to 45.

Edinburgh scored on a 6-yard TD pass from Sackman to Austin Streeval and Sackman’s two-point run in the fourth quarter, making it 45-8.
