Police find 150 marijuana plants

For the second time in five years, police have discovered a marijuana grow operation in a home outside of Bargersville.

Jerry E. Ashbrook, 66, Morgantown, was arrested on a charge of dealing marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.

Investigators went to Ashbrook’s home on Division Road, about a mile west of Union Elementary School, with a search warrant. Before they ever got inside, they could smell marijuana, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

Officers found 151 marijuana plants growing inside the home. Ashbrook told them it would harvest about a pound of marijuana for him and his friends, the report said.

Investigators found marijuana plants growing in multiple areas of the home, including a greenhouse outside, the basement of the home and a bedroom, the report said. The grow operation also included timers, fans and multiple types of light bulbs, the report said.

They also found gummy marijuana items that Ashbrook told investigators he had made, the report said.

This is the second time that investigators have found a marijuana grow operation at Ashbrook’s home.

In 2013, police found more than 50 plants growing in the home.

Ashbrook later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to a year on probation.

This week, Ashbrook was arrested on two felony charges.

Ashbrook, 5056 W. Division Road, was taken to the Johnson County jail and released on $2,400 bond.
