Fraud attempts sweeping the county

At least two women in Franklin and Greenwood were told they would be arrested if they did not give a caller money.

Two police reports were made Thursday by residents who had received calls stating that they would be arrested if they did not give the caller money. Other county residents have received calls, but declined to make police reports, Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox said.

All of the calls are fraudulent. These types of fraudulent calls are happening across the county, Cox said.

In Greenwood, the woman reported that she received a voicemail purporting that she had multiple pending criminal charges against her, the sheriff’s office report said.

And a Franklin a woman reported that she received a phone call from someone claiming she owed money and would be taken to jail if she did not pay, the report said.
