GCA boys advance to sectional final

<p>SHELBYVILLE</p><p>Greenwood Christian Academy midfielder Jonathan Amador figure he was in the right place to capitalize.</p><p>“Coach (George Huizinga) always tells us to go back post, so I went back post and I saw the opportunity and I took it,” Amador said. “I saw the ball bounce and I knew it was going to come right back to me, and I went to the ball.”</p><p>With 14-plus minutes left in the first half, Amador scored the game’s only goal to lift the Class A No. 7 Cougars to a 1-0 victory over Indianapolis Lutheran in the semifinal round of the Southwestern (Shelbyville) Sectional.</p><p>The Cougars (13-3-1) will face the host Spartans in Saturday’s championship match.</p><p>Amador had a chance to add to GCA’s lead, but he missed apenalty kick with 22:35 left in the second half.</p><p>“I fell too much under pressure and I missed the PK,” Amador said.</p><p>Amador went down with left calf cramps later in the second half, but he was able to return late.</p><p>“It was a well-fought game; that game could have gone either way,” Huizinga said. “The wind definitely gave us some trouble in the second half. We were fortunate to come out on top. They’ve got a good defense.”</p><p>The two teams had played a 1-1 draw last week.</p><p>“So we knew either team could have won,” Huizinga said. “We’ve been really playing well. We’re peaking at the right time. That’s what you want to see from the young men, you want to be playing together as a team and relying on each other.”</p><p>Cougars goalkeeper Gabe Vessely didn’t face many shots, but he made a key stop on a free kick with nine-plus minutes left in the game.</p><p>“The free kick was curling around and I got a good dive on it,” Vessely said. “I just was able to collect it with some patience. Overall, it was a good game from my part and a fantastic game from the defensive part.”</p><p>It was the kind of game Vessely expected.</p><p>“We knew we had to play with intensity like we did against Oldenburg and we got the job done,” said Vessely, whose team beat the fourth-ranked Twisters 2-0 in the sectional opener on Monday.</p><p>“Our ultimate goal is to get to state championship and really showcase the talent that we have,” Vessely said.</p>
