Edinburgh men arrested following drug investigation

Two Edinburgh men were arrested after detectives said they found nearly two pounds of marijuana and digital scales in one of their apartments.

Christopher Paul Tinney, 45, 819 S. Roosevelt St., Edinburgh, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and contempt, after detectives from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office discovered he also had a warrant out for his arrest for not paying child support, according to court documents.

Thomas Clint Burton, 58, 504 Memorial Drive, Edinburgh, was arrested on charges of maintaining a common nuisance and possession of marijuana.

As part of a drug investigation involving Tinney, detectives served a search warrant Thursday morning at an apartment at 504 Memorial Drive in Edinburgh, which is believed to be Burton’s residence, court documents show.

Deputies found less than 30 grams of marijuana in Tinney’s pocket. He told them it was about an 1/8 of an ounce, but was about 1/4 of an ounce when he got it, court documents show. In the course of searching the apartment, officers also found a black duffel bag with about 1.75 pounds of marijuana and digital scales inside the apartment, according to the documents.

Burton was uncooperative during the search, detectives said.

Possession of marijuana is a Level 6 felony, carrying a fine of up to $10,000 and a jail sentence of between 6 months and 2 1/2 years.

Tinney is being held at the Johnson County jail on $1,000 bond. Burton is being held at the jail on $4,800 bond.
