Get your stuff appraised at a local event

Have you ever wondered the worth of the China bowl in your cabinet or that baseball card in your attic?

This month, you can find out.

The Friends of Johnson County Public Library is hosting an antiques and collectibles appraisal fundraising event featuring author and antiques expert Mark F. Moran.

The event starts at 1 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Franklin library, 401 State St.

Appraisals are open to Johnson County Public Library cardholders for a $10 fee payable by cash or check. Checks should be made payable to the Friends of the Johnson County Public Library.  Payment is due at the time of registration and registration can be done at any branch of the library or at the Library Services Center, 49 E. Monroe St., Franklin.

Registration is on a first-come basis and appraisal of items is limited to 40 items total, one per person. Registration remains open until all 40 slots are filled.

Excluded items include all weapons, including swords and knives (though folding knives with advertising are accepted), traps (like leg-hold), Nazi memorabilia, coins and paper money, fine jewelry (including precious gems) and Beanie Babies.

Moran bought and sold antiques for more than 30 years, specializing in vintage folk art, Americana and fine art. He is the author or co-author of more than 25 books on antiques and collectibles, including three editions of the 800-page annual “Warman’s Antiques & Collectibles.”

General admission for viewing is free and is open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
