Stage to Screen Studios, the newest player in the local performing arts scene, kicks off its Cabaret Series of shows spotlighting the area’s most skilled performers.

CONFRONTING THE TERROR OF DEATH: HOW DEAD IS TOO DEAD IN ART?, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17, Franklin library, 401 State St.

Death is a central theme of the classic horror and science fiction novel "Frankenstein." Now, prepare to delve deeper into the way artists of all kinds depict the finality and unknown of dying.

Svetlana Rakic, a professor of art at Franklin College, will discuss how death has been depicted in art throughout history. The program is part of the Johnson County Public Library system’s One State/One Story Frankenstein celebration, recognizing the 200th anniversary of the book.

Look at artwork from medieval to contemporary times, seeing how the portrayal of death has changed over times.
