Two drivers from Edinburgh were injured in a two-vehicle accident northeast of the Edinburgh Premium Outlets.
When German Township firefighters were sent to the scene at 6:25 a.m. Friday, they were told both drivers were trapped in their vehicles, Fire Chief Matt Lynch said.
Columbus firefighters were also sent to the scene with extrication equipment, he said. Each vehicle was on its side in a cornfield, Lynch said.
The driver of a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer, Ariel D. Gutana, 28, Edinburgh, was taken by LifeLine helicopter to IU Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, where her condition was unavailable Friday afternoon. Firefighters cut away the back section of the vehicle to extricate her, according to the fire department.

Wesley Mourey, 40, Edinburgh, who was driving a 2007 Dodge Nitro, was also trapped in his vehicle, but was able to get out when the windshield was removed by firefighters, Lynch said. He was treated and released at Columbus Regional Hospital for minor injuries, Lynch said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, which Lynch said prevented the accident from resulting in a fatality.
Assisting at the scene with Columbus firefighters were Columbus Regional Hospital EMS ambulances, Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies, Hope Police Department and the E-911 center.
