A Greenwood man accidentally shot himself in the hand after he dropped a gun and a shot was fired.
An officer from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded to Community Hospital South at 4:52 p.m. Thursday to a report that a man had a gun shot wound to his hand.
The man told the officer he had returned to his home in the 500 block of Keeneland Lane in Greenwood after a day of shooting. He began to clean his gun and accidentally dropped it. When he attempted to catch it, the gun went off and a bullet entered his other hand, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
The bullet entered the palm of his hand and discharged near his wrist. The man also had gun powder burns on his hand, according to the report.
A relative drove him to the hospital, where he was treated, the report said.
