Rebels roll to sectional title

Roncalli plowed its way to the Class 4A Ben Davis Sectional championship on Saturday, sweeping both Southport and Perry Meridian to claim the crown.

Betsy Crosley had nine kills and Emma Halter pulled up 19 digs in a 25-18, 25-11, 25-15 win over Southport. Then, in the evening final against the Falcons, the Rebels got 20 kills and 20 digs from Grace Hegwood in a 25-18, 25-22, 25-15 victory.

Roncalli will play Cathedral in the semifinals of the Greenfield-Central Regional this weekend.

Franklin College

Women’s soccer wins third straight

Maddie Fleet scored once in each half and Rachel Hawkins tacked on a goal as Franklin College blanked Anderson, 3-0, on Saturday for its third consecutive victory.

Lexi Short made six saves for the Grizzlies (7-6-1, 4-1 HCAC). Fleet now has 92 goals in her career.

Women’s tennis handles Earlham

In its home finale, Franklin rolled past Earlham for a 7-2 victory on Saturday. Maddie Bright, Holyn Eldridge and Alexa Schofner each earned singles and doubles victories for the Grizzlies (7-1, 6-1 HCAC). Tapanga Gauck was also a singles winner, while Grace Otte, Brianna Hutton and Karen Dringenburg helped secure doubles points.

Volleyball settles for split

Franklin College earned a three-set victory over Anderson on Saturday before falling to Alma in three. Kyndall Boyll had 23 kills on the day to lead the Grizzlies (9-14).

Men’s soccer falls to Ravens

Despite a Jordan Thomas goal, Franklin College was beaten by Anderson on Saturday, 6-1.
