Columbus police arrest Edinburgh man on drug charges

An Edinburgh man was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop in Columbus.

David M. Burton, 53, was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine between 5 and 10 grams, a level 5 felony, and possession of marijuana with a prior conviction and driving while suspended, both misdemeanors.

Columbus police saw Burton fail to signal a turn on his motorcycle about 11:10 p.m. Sunday. Maddix attempted to stop Burton, who continued traveling around the apartment’s parking lot and dropped a small item to the pavement prior to stopping, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officer confirmed that Burton’s driver’s license was suspended, and he took Burton into custody, Harris said.

While searching Burton, police found a small bag of marijuana in Burton’s coat pocket. The item that Burton dropped in the parking lot was methamphetamine, Harris said.

He is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond at the Bartholomew County Jail, according to jail officials in Columbus.
