Austin N. Douglas Jr., age 76, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 13, 2018 at Aspen Trace Senior Living Community in Greenwood. He was a resident of Trafalgar.
</p>
<p>
Austin was born on June 8, 1942 in New Castle to his parents, Austin N. and LaVaughn (Engle) Douglas Sr. He was a 1960 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler Memorial High School in New Castle and received a Bachelor’s Degree in 1964 from Hanover College. Austin went on to earn a Master of Arts Degree and teaching certificate in 1972 from Indiana Central College.

He retired in 1993 as a Pharmacologist from Eli Lilly in Indianapolis after 26 years of service. After retirement, Austin worked as a Purchaser for Baxter Pharmaceuticals in Bloomington for 8 years.

He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin, Knights of Columbus, lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the Indianapolis Mustang Club. Austin had a passion for automobiles, especially mustangs. He was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed drag racing his Gremlin. Austin also enjoyed visiting car shows and swap meets. He was a fan of Indiana University Men’s Basketball, Indiana Pacers and the Indianapolis Colts. Austin also enjoyed photography, watching old movies and caring for his dog Shelby.

Austin was a loving husband and loyal father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 50 loving years, Joan M. (Fischer) Douglas, whom he married on February 3, 1968 in Dayton, OH. He is also survived by his mother, LaVaughn Douglas of New Castle; sister, DeeAnn (Jim); children, Emily (Joe), Adam (Karen) and Trent (Andrea); grandchildren, Rachel (Aaron), Aaron (Livvy), Marissa (Jeremiah), Brendon, Madison, Bailey (Ashley), Hannah, and Makenzie; great grandchildren, Sadie, Silas, Daisy, Brantley, Ryne, and Eva.

Austin was preceded in death by his father, Austin N. Douglas Sr.
</p>
<p>
Father Steven Schaftlein will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 18th at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Drive in Franklin. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Inurnment will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation &amp; Personalization Center in Morgantown.
