Man killed in Tuesday morning crash on State Road 37

A Tuesday morning accident in the Center Grove area killed one person and closed part of State Road 37 for more than two hours.

The crash involved a semi and a car. The driver of the car, Chad Stivers, 41, of Bedford, died at the scene, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

He was traveling northbound in the fast lane on State Road 37 and drove into a ditch in the median before entering southbound lanes of traffic. The car was struck on the driver’s side by a semi, according to the accident report. The impact killed the driver, Sheriff Doug Cox said.

The semi driver, Joshua House, 46, of Anderson, hit the brakes immediately, causing the tractor and trailer to skid, the report said. He was not injured, Cox said.

The accident happened at 6:44 a.m. and closed part of State Road 37 near Olive Branch Road.

It is unclear what caused the driver to cross the median into oncoming traffic.

State Road 37 between Olive Branch and Stones Crossing roads was reopened just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, he said.
