Former adjutant general to speak in Columbus

A Johnson County man who served as adjutant general of the Indiana National Guard under three governors will be speaking in Columbus.  

Retired Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger will address the importance of each generation to serve in the Armed Forces. His 10:30 a.m. Nov. 7 address will be at Four Seasons Retirement Community, 1901 Taylor Road.    

Before retiring from the military in 2015 after 46 years of service, Umbarger was instrumental in establishing Muscatatuck Urban Training Center as a nationally recognized training facility for both military and civilian responders. He also helped lead the expansion of Camp Atterbury near Edinburgh into a state-of-the-art simulation, cyber, mobilization and training facility.

He is president of Umbarger Agribusiness, a family business in Bargersville. Umbarger has also served as a consultant or advisor to corporate clients during the past three years.
