Franklin College

Swimmers dominate home opener

Franklin College made its first home meet of the season a success, with the men rolling past Anderson by a 177-36 score and the women easily defeating Anderson (186-35) and Indiana Wesleyan (165-56).

Courtnee Coffman, Jessica Halsmer and Lexi Blackburn each had a pair of individual event wins for the Grizzly women. Will Combs was a double winner in men’s diving.

Men’s soccer finishes with win

Luke Oliver and Jordan Thomas each scored twice as Franklin College closed out its season with a 4-1 home victory over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday. Mason May had a pair of assists for the Grizzlies (5-12-1, 4-5 HCAC) and goalkeeper Jake Hendricks made six saves.

Women’s soccer drops final match

Lexi Short made a career-high 13 saves and freshman Samantha Stone found the back of the net for her second goal of the year, but Franklin College saw its season end with a 4-1 defeat against Mount St. Joseph on Saturday. The Grizzlies finish 8-9-1 overall and 4-5 in the conference.

Two runners earn All-HCAC spots

Clayton Brumfield and Blaine Conners earned all-conference recognition by placing fourth and eighth, respectively, at the HCAC cross country meet in Shelbyville on Saturday.

The Grizzlies finished fifth as a team in the men’s race. The women, who wound up seventh, were led by Krista Robinson’s 36th-place performance.

Volleyball loses in four

Franklin College got 19 kills from Kyra Harvey and 13 from Abby Sewell, but it couldn’t overcome Mount St. Joseph in a 21-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-23 defeat on Saturday. Libby Stahl had 22 digs and Mackenzie Waldran 42 assists for the Grizzlies (10-17, 3-6 HCAC).
