INDIANAPOLIS (FORMERLY OF MORGANTOWN)

Rev. Gene McClain, age 87, passed away Sunday morning, October 28, 2018 at the Greenwood Health Care Center. He was a resident of Indianapolis and a former resident of Morgantown.

Gene was born on January 8, 1931 in Johnson County, to his parents, the late Cecil and Edna Pearl (Richey) McClain. He was a 1949 graduate of Southport High School and went on to earn a degree in Theology from Indiana Central College in Indianapolis. Gene served as a Private with the 26th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army during the Korean War.

He retired in 2003 after 30 years of service as a Minister for the Assembly of God Church in Morgantown, Shelbyville and Freeport. Gene was also a former member of the Evangelical Christian Church Board.

He was a member of the Southside Church of the Nazarene in Indianapolis. Gene enjoyed camping and playing the piano.

He married Carolyn ‘Kay’ (Henson) McClain on January 17, 1972 in Houston, Texas. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2014 after 42 devoted and loving years of marriage. Gene is also preceded in death by a sons, Gordon and David McClain; grandson, Daniel McClain; siblings, Bill and Glen McClain and Pansy McMillin.

He is survived by a daughter, Susan Baca of Wisconsin; great grandson, Elijah McClain of Fortville; caregiver, Deana (Jeff) McClimon of Fortville; sister in law, Wanda June (Bill) Hogan of Texas; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The Rev. Ray McCrary will conduct a funeral service on Saturday, November 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with military rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
