New Greenwood school board members focusing on bettering education

Incumbent Mike Metzger will continue to serve on the Greenwood School Board along with newcomer Brian Ford.

Metzger and Ford beat Jay Arnold for two seats on the five-member school board.

Metzger got 40 percent of the vote; but Ford collected just two more votes than Arnold in the closest race of the night.

School board members approve the annual school budget and construction projects, set policies for the school district and review the school superintendent.

Metzger is currently in his first term on the board. He is also on the board of directors at Central Nine Career Center.

His primary focus for his next term are increasing enrollment and improving teacher pay. Metzger said he appreciates the teachers of Greenwood schools.

“I don’t want to hold them (teachers) back in their ability to educate students,” he said.

Ford, a vice president of an insurance company, is pleased with how the school board has handled operations.

He is a graduate of Greenwood schools and he said he brings a passion for Greenwood and its children, as well as a professional skill-set in applying strategic initiatives and managing a budget.

“I’m always looking for way to continue to engage in the community,” Ford said.
