Poverty group in need of volunteers

Bridges Alliance of Johnson County, a collaborative effort of businesses, agencies, churches and residents aiming to reduce and end poverty, is in need of volunteers.

The most pressing need is for Circle Allies, volunteers who are paired with an individual working to break the cycle of poverty, to provide support and guidance. In the Bridges Alliance program, participants go through a 14-week course, where they learn techniques and approaches toward self-reliance.

Afterwards, they will be paired with two or three Circle Allies, who will provide support and resources as they work to meet the financial, employment, education and other goals that they’ve set. Allies pass a background check, complete Ally Training and attend at least two meetings per month.

An informational meeting about Circle Allies will be conducted from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Adams Drive, Franklin. Dinner will be served.

The first organizational meeting and training for people interested in becoming an Ally will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 9 at the church.
