GREENWOOD

Virginia Kay Kincaid of Greenwood passed away December 15, 2018. Virginia (Ginny) was born on December 31, 1928 to Hyacinth and Walter Barkes in Mishawaka, IN.

She has two brothers, Robert (Warsaw, IN) and Walt Jr. (Mishawaka, IN). She was married to Wayne H. Kincaid (deceased) in 1954 and together they had two boys–Rex, of Williamsburg, VA; and Eric, of New York, NY. She graduated with a BA in education from Indiana University and later received her Masters in education from IU as well. She taught kindergarten and first grade at Break-O Day, Clark Pleasant, and Isom Central public schools. She was an active member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church where at various times she taught Sunday school, was Superintendent of Education, sang with the choir, and was an active member of the United Methodist Women’s Group (UMW).

For years she was a member of the Psi Iota XI Sorority and also served as President of the Zeta Sigma Auxiliary. Virginia was a skilled musician on the piano and in later years played for worship services and social events at Greenwood Village South where she had lived for the past 12 years. Like many women of her generation she put career pursuits aside as she focused on being an exceptional homemaker–busy with baking, canning, cooking, cleaning, sewing, managing a beautiful home, and rearing her two boys.

Ginny is survived by her two sons, Rex (Laurie) and Eric, three grandchildren, Luke (Alexis), Kelly and Hannah, and two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Finley.

A celebration of Ginny’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 19, at the Greenwood United Methodist Church 525 N. Madison Ave. Greenwood, IN with viewing 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. There will be a fellowship meal at Greenwood United Methodist Church following the committal service.
