Four Roncalli students named rising stars

Four Roncalli High School juniors have been named Indiana “Rising Stars” in the most recent publication of the Indiana Association of School Principals.

Ryan Flick, Andrew Gangstad, William Hawkins, and Grace Whitaker were selected from among the class of 2020 for this honor based on a combination of academic achievement, standardized test score results, and school/community involvement.

Bargersville student places in state wide contest

A local student placed second place in an essay contest for writing about Indiana.

Joe Gregory, a student at Maple Grove Elementary School, competed in the 2018 Statehood Day Essay Contest.

The annual event asks fourth graders across the state to write essays about Indiana pride around the Dec. 11 anniversary of Indiana officially becoming a state.

Students can get live homework help

Local students struggling with math or science homework can get help.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s AskRose homework line is open to help students.

Rose-Hulman students are available 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday during the school year to help students in grades 6 through 12 review math and science concepts. Connections can be made at 877-ASK-ROSE (877-275-7673) or the AskRose website, Ask Rose.org.

Greenwood Public Library offering scholarship

The Greenwood Public Library will award a scholarship to a high school senior who loves to read.

The Century of Reading Scholarship, worth $5,000, is open to seniors attending a high school in Johnson County or a homeschooled student who lives in the county.

This one-time award has been established by the library in honor of its 100 years of service to the community.

The college scholarship will be awarded to one local senior who reads 50 books from a select list, and also demonstrates insight and creativity in an essay about how reading has impacted and inspired their future.

Applications are due March 1 from the online application form at www.greenwoodlibrary.us/scholarship. No paper applications will be accepted.
