Man arrested in shooting of dog at Camp Atterbury

<p>Animal control arrested an Indianapolis man on Sunday after he shot a dog at Camp Atterbury.</p><p>Kang Zhuang, 39, 519 W. 13th Street, was arrested on a charge of torturing and killing an animal, a level 6 felony.</p><p>He could serve as little as six months in prison if convicted, said Michael Delp, animal control director.</p><p>A conservation officer with the Department of Natural Resource witnessed Zhuang shoot and kill a beagle Sunday afternoon on the military base near Edinburgh.</p><p>“He was in the right place at the right time,” Delp said.</p><p>Animal control was called. Zhuang told officers he killed the animal but did not say why he did it, Delp said. The man initially said the dog was his, but then said it wasn’t. Delp believes it was a stray, he said.</p><p>“It breaks my heart,” Delp said.</p><p>Zhuang was released from the Johnson County jail on $1,200 bond.</p>
