Greenwood council members named to commissions, boards

With a new year comes new appointments to several city boards and commissions.

The Greenwood City Council agreed unanimously to allow Mike Campbell and Ron Bates to continue as president and vice-president, respectively, through 2019.

All council members are up for election this year.

Bob Dine, the former Greenwood police chief who was voted to the council during a caucus last year, will replace Bates on the city’s plan commission. The plan commission is a city board that reviews annexation and zoning plans and sends recommendations to the city council.

David Hopper will replace Linda Gibson on the city’s redevelopment commission. Gibson had only served on the RDC for a few months. Campbell will continue his work on the commission. Two council members serve on this board, which manages the money collected in the tax-increment financing districts.

Andrew Foster, the newest city council member by way of a caucus, will take over for Dave Lekse on the county’s Solid Waste Management District’s board. Lekse was just named to that board in September, but because Foster works as deputy prosecutor in Franklin, it would be easier for him to serve, they agreed. The Solid Waste Management District’s board oversees trash collection and recycling throughout the county.

Gibson will continue to serve on The Social’s board of directors. The Social is a non-profit organization in Greenwood that offers a variety of programs and services for seniors.

Ezra Hill and Bruce Armstrong were not appointed to any boards or commissions.
