Two people charged with possession credit card skimming equipment

<p>Police officers looking to serve an out-of-state warrant found a credit card skimming operation in Greenwood that spanned multiple states and involved more than 200 stolen credit cards.</p><p>Mayara Martinez, 27 and Norge Rodriguez-Leon, 37, both of Greenwood, have been charged with possession of a card skimming device, after police found multiple card skimmers, a notebook with Indianapolis gas station addresses and 229 credit card numbers in their apartment. Rodriguez—Leon was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.</p><p>A Greenwood police officer received a tip from an investigator in Illinois on Feb. 12 that people with warrants were likely living at 1744 Feather Reed Lane in Greenwood, according to a probable cause affidavit.</p>[sc:text-divider text-divider-title="Story continues below gallery" ]<p>On Feb. 22, officers went to the home to serve the arrest warrants. No one answered the door, so officers forced their way into the home, according to the affidavit.</p><p>Officers searched the home and found the front panel of a gas pump, multiple stacks of gift cards, multiple card skimming devices, computers and machines that read and write credit card numbers, the affidavit said.</p><p>The card skimming devices found are typically placed in a gas pump and used to capture credit and debit card numbers when people pumping gas use their cards at the pumps, the officer wrote in the affidavit.</p><p>A stack of credit cards and a driver’s license from Tennessee were found under a mattress in the home. The driver’s license had Rodriguez-Leon’s photograph but had another name on it, according to the affidavit.</p><p>Officers also found several controlled substances and methamphetamine in the home, the affidavit said.</p><p>A notebook with addresses of gas stations in the Indianapolis area was found. A secret service agent went to the addresses and found six card skimming devices installed in those gas pumps, according to the affidavit.</p><p>A flash drive that had 229 credit card numbers and multiple addresses were also found in the home. Seventeen of the addresses were out of state, the affidavit said.</p><p>Possession of a card skimming device is a level six felony.</p>
