Man threatens person with truck, gun

A Franklin man was arrested on Wednesday after he tried to run over a man with his truck, threatened him with a gun and punched him, police said.

Cody Sutton, 27, 99 W. Adams St., was arrested on charges of intimidation and criminal recklessness, both felonies, and misdemeanor charges of battery and possession of paraphernalia.

About 7 p.m. Wednesday, Franklin police responded to the 400 block of Main Street where a man said Sutton tried to run him over with a large truck, chased him on foot into a neighbor’s backyard, punched him in his jaw and pulled a gun on him, according to the police report.

The man said he received a call from Sutton at 6:54 p.m., and Sutton told him, “You took everything from me and I’m coming to kill you,” the report said.

Sutton was angry because the man “stole his girlfriend,” according to the report.

The man told police while Sutton was chasing him, Sutton yelled that he brought a gun, the report said. The man also told police he feared for his life.

When the man asked Sutton what kind of gun he had, Sutton said, “The kind I can kill you with,” the report said.

Sutton then put the gun away, walked back to his truck and left, the man told police.

Police found Sutton and arrested him.

Police didn’t find any weapons on Sutton or in his truck, but they did find a marijuana smoking device in the glove box, the report said.

Sutton told to police that he confronted the man about stealing his girlfriend, and that he drove toward him in his truck to “make him think I was going to hit him,” the report said.

He also told police, “Yeah, I punched him. What was I supposed to do?”

When asked about the firearm, Sutton told police he doesn’t own any guns and denied having one at any point during the altercation.

Sutton was released from jail on $13,000 bond.
