Jail inmate used false identity when arrested

A man who was arrested on multiple drug charges, criminal confinement and theft of a firearm used a false identity when he was booked into the Johnson County jail, police said.

Russell Dawayne Johnson, 47, Greenwood, was not arrested. A man used his identity when he was booked into the jail on March 26, Damian Katt, major of the investigations division with the Johnson County Sheriff’s office said.

Johnson’s name was included in the March 27 Daily Journal listing of inmates who had been booked into jail because of the man using his identity.

Daniel Dawayne Suarez, 43, Virginia, was the man arrested. He was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, criminal confinement, theft of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine.

A false informing charge was added later, Katt said.

Suarez is also wanted on an out-of-state warrant from Virginia. Law enforcement officials from Virginia are making plans to extradite Suarez, Katt said.
