Braves roll in league opener

Four pitchers combined on a four-hitter as Indian Creek routed Cloverdale, 14-0, on Thursday.

Xavier Ferris, Devyn Parr, Zach Scott and Colby Marker split the pitching duties for the Braves (4-1, 1-0 WIC). Parr, Ferris, Dustin Sprong, Trevor Ankney and Chris Long each drove in a pair of runs, while Mason Britt scored three times.

Indian Creek faces Edinburgh in a county tournament semifinal on Saturday afternoon at Center Grove.

Trojans blank Bears

Center Grove defeated Lawrence Central for the second straight day, earning a 7-0 win on Thursday. Nolan Wolf got the win for the Trojans (2-1, 2-0 MIC), while Bryce Eblin and Jackson Young each had a double and an RBI.

Grizzly Cubs stay perfect

Franklin swept a doubleheader with Plainfield on Wednesday, winning by scores of 7-0 and 11-9.

Jared Ross tossed six shutout innings in the opener, allowing just two hits, and he also drove in a pair of runs. In the second game, winning pitcher Luke Miles drove in three runs and George Admire added a two-run double for the Grizzly Cubs (3-0, 2-0 Mid-State), who play Whiteland in a Johnson County tournament semifinal Saturday.

Softball

Warriors nipped by Flashes

Despite home runs from Haley Wilkerson and Debbie Hill, Whiteland dropped an 8-7 decision against Franklin Central on Thursday. Wilkerson led the Warriors (2-2) with three hits, while Hill, Delanie Gourley, Aniyah Haley and Bri McCoy each added two. Hill drove in five runs on the day.

Track and field

Warriors sweep three-way

Whiteland swept Southport and Franklin on Thursday, with the Warrior boys collecting 69 points to defeat the runner-up Cardinals by 20 and the girls edging the Grizzly Cubs.

The Warriors, who won both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, got individual victories from Trevor Larence (long jump), Logan Beers (discus), Dalton DeBaun (200 meters), Jonah Yazel (400) and Mika Long (800). Third-place Franklin won the 4×800 and got wins from Matt Frazier (pole vault), Andrew Bixler (1,600) and Will Tucker (3,200).

In the girls meet, Whiteland had a pair of double winners in Gabrielle Allen (100 meters, 100 hurdles) and Reagan Emberton (shot put, discus). Also placing first were Isabella Jackson (200), Taylor Leytham (800), Hailey Kreich (300 hurdles), Caitlyn Taylor (long jump) and the 4×400 relay. Franklin’s victories came from the 4×800 relay and Lilly Lacy in the 3,200.

Girls tennis

Warriors sweep Hornets

Whiteland rolled to a 5-0 win over Beech Grove on Thursday, with Reese Johnson, Sarah Scott and Sophie Venter sweeping the singles points for a second straight day.

The Warriors (2-0) got a win at No. 1 doubles from Brooke Boehnlein and Bri Harwell, while Emma Harris and Katie Hoagland were victorious at No. 2.

Woodmen come up short

Despite wins from Sophia Davidson and Emily Chatham in the top two singles slots, Greenwood suffered a 3-2 setback against Southport on Thursday. The Woodmen are now 1-2 on the year.

Boys golf

Braves finish second

Indian Creek placed second in a three-way meet at Owen Valley on Thursday. The Braves totaled 187 strokes, seven back of the host Patriots but 29 ahead of South Putnam.

Clark Haywood paced Indian Creek with a 44, while Chandler Donahue shot a 46.
