Find your student something to do this summer

If you are looking for a way to keep your youngster busy this summer, programs around the county have you covered.

Schools, Franklin College, nonprofit organizations, community centers and even a museum are offering summer camps to cater to every kid’s taste.

Children can sing at multiple musical theater camps, create their own robot or become green thumbs.

Registration is already open for most of the camps across the county, and some offer early bird discounts for parents who enroll their child early.

Here is a look at the summer camp offerings:

Camp Invention

Multiple schools are offering the curriculum for a national camp that allows students to get immersed in STEM concepts.

Camp Invention will be offered this summer at Isom Elementary School and Center Grove Elementary School this summer.

Center Grove and Isom are offering the “Supercharged” curriculum. Center Grove’s camp is June 3-7 and Isom’s is June 17-21.

Center Grove Fine Arts Academy

Your drama student can get a travel around the world with Disney, learn about Broadway or dinner theater at several camps hosted by the Center Grove Fine Arts Academy.

The academy is hosting the following camps:

Disney Around the World: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 10-14 for students in kindergarten to third grade. Cost is $200 and the camp will be at Rocklane Christian Church.

Broadway Rocks: 9 a.m. to 4 p .m. June 17-21, for students in grades 3-8. Cost is $200 and the camp will be at Rocklane Christian Church.

Madrigal Dinner Theatre: 4:30 to 9 p.m. June 23-29, for students in grades 7-12. Cost is $150 and the camp is at Rocklane Christian Church.

Sarge’s Dinner Theatre, 4:30 to 9 p.m. July 14-20, for students in grades 7-12. Cost is $150 and the camps is at Southland Community Church.

Choral and Vocal Music Camp

Students who want to brush up on their vocal skills can attend a choral and music camp hosted by the Franklin Community High School choral department.

The camp is 8:30 a.m. to noon June 10-14 and is open to students in grades 5-12. The cost is $90 for one student with discounts offered for multiple students. Private voice lessons will be available each day in the afternoons.

Campers will learn from individual instructors and vocal ensembles and a concert performance will be at the end of the camp.

Empowering Bright Futures

Girls Inc. in Franklin wants to make your daughter, smart, strong and bold this summer.

The nonprofit’s annual camp is 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday May 30-Aug. 1. Registration fees are $45 until May 1, when it jumps to $50. Weekly fees are $65. Day rates are $15.

Girls will spend the summer with STEM activities, including Math Plus and Arts with a Purpose. Girls will get to swim and take field trips as well.

Junior Dance Camp

Tiny dancers can hone their dance skills at a dance camp hosted by the Center Grove High School varsity dance team.

Students in grades 1-8 can dance their heart out from 9 to 11 a.m. June 11, 12 and 13 at Center Grove High School, 2717 S. Morgantown Road, Greenwood.

Cost is $55 per camper with a discount for multiple campers.

Kids on Campus

Students can take classes in multiple subjects at Franklin College’s annual Kids on Campus.

Registration is now open and campers can choose full and half day options on camp days, which are between June 17-21 on the Franklin College campus.

The camp is open for students entering grades 1-8.

Costs range from $149 for a half day, early bird registration to $229 for a full day registration after May 4.

Mini 4-H Camp

Budding 4-Hers can get a peek at 4-H during Mini 4-H Camp.

The camp will be June 25 and 26 at Scott Hall on the Johnson County Fairgrounds.

The camp is open to 4-H members in kindergarten through second grade.

The Rock Camp

Community Church of Greenwood is offering an all day summer camp this year.

The Rock Camp is open to children entering grades 1-5. Camp is 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays from May 28 to July 26.

Campers will take several field trips to destinations around Indianapolis and will have use of The Gathering Place, a sports and fitness facility owned by the church on the church campus.

Time Traveler’s History Camp

Your history loving youngster can get spend part of the summer studying the subject at the Johnson County Museum of History’s Time Traveler’s History Camp.

The camp is for students who have completed third or fourth grade and is 9 a.m. to noon July 8 to 12 at the museum, 135 N. Main St., Franklin.

Registration is do June 19 and is $25 for historical society members and $30 for non-members.

Youth Garden Camp

Students can dig in the dirt and learn about how plants grow in the Purdue Extension of Johnson County’s Youth Garden Camp.

The camp is June 5, 12, 19 and 26 and is open to kids ages 8 to 12 are invited. 4-H enrollment is not required.

The camp will will be at Purdue Extension Johnson County, 484 N. Morton St., Franklin.

Camp days are spread out over multiple weeks so campers can see the plant development.

The cost is $15 and registration is due May 31.
