Police: Edinburgh man stole transmission, exposed himself

An Edinburgh man was arrested last week after police say he stole a car part from a downtown storage facility and exposed himself to two men in a parking lot.

Joshua Wayne Baker, 36, 210 E. County Line Road, Apt. 3, was arrested on charges of burglary and indecent exposure.

About 5 p.m. April 5, a property manager watched as Baker loaded a transmission into the back of his truck about 100 yards from the storage facility, according to an Edinburgh police report.

The property manager did not check to see if anything had been stolen from the facility at that time, but realized on April 7 that a transmission was missing, the report said.

Surveillance video on April 7 showed Baker walking north from the storage facility into a vacant lot carrying the transmission. Baker proceeded to a backyard where he loaded the transmission into the back of the truck, according to the report.

Baker sold the transmission to someone for $20. The person who bought it later returned it to the property manager, the report said.

The property manager said on March 29, while standing outside the storage facility with a friend, he noticed Baker cutting through the vacant lot muttering under his breath. When they asked Baker what he was doing, he turned around, unzipped his pants and exposed himself, an incident that was also caught on camera, according to the report.

Edinburgh police arrested Baker on April 10. In an interview that day, he told police he got the idea to steal the transmission from another man who had recently stolen property from the same facility, the report said.

Baker denied exposing himself, police said.

He is being held at the Johnson County jail on $8,600 bond.
