Truck driver found unconscious in road

A trash truck driver was found unconscious Monday morning in a the middle of an Indianapolis road.

The sheriff’s office was not releasing the name of the victim Monday afternoon because all family had not been notified, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office news release.

About 8:30 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to the report of a man laying in the street in the 9100 block of Shelbyville Road, southeast of Franklin Road, on the county line.

Deputies and medics found the man unconscious, with severe head trauma and road rash on his arms and legs. It did not appear that he had been run over, according to the report.

His truck was nearby in a yard, the report said.

Deputies believe the man fell out of the truck as he turned a sharp, almost 90-degree curve in the road. It did not appear that the truck hit anything, but came to a stop when it sank into the ground, the report said.

The man was rushed to an Indianapolis hospital, the report said.

Republic Trash personnel responded to the scene and took possession of the truck, according to the report.
