Whiteland winner focused on businesses, public safety

<p>In a race between newcomers for Whiteland Town Council, Laura Fleury came out on top and will represent the Republican Party in November’s general election.</p><p>Andy Brock, the incumbent, chose not to run again, and any of the three candidates on the ballot would have been new to elected office.</p><p>Fleury secured the nomination with 52 percent of the vote, while 30 and 18 percent of voters selected Russell Crague and Sean Middleton, respectively.</p><p>She campaigned on two key issues: growing local business with the expected population increase in the area and improving public safety.</p><p>The town is doing a good job in terms of supporting its police department, but she wants to ensure they have the resources and funding needed to continue that work, she said.</p><p>Fleury could face a Democrat or independent candidate in the November general election.
