Greenwood man charged with battery, pointing a firearm, other offenses

Police arrested a Greenwood man on Sunday on six charges, including three felonies, after a family member called police due to him fighting and threatening to kill people with a handgun at a party.

Zachery S. Eckert, 25, of 1221 Kenwood Drive, Greenwood, was arrested on charges of intimidation, pointing a firearm and residential entry, all at least Level 5 felonies. He also faces misdemeanor charges of battery resulting in the bodily injury of another person, criminal mischief and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

A Greenwood officer responded to a call from a Greenwood home about 6 a.m. Sunday. A family member had told Eckert he was not welcome at her house, and she told the officer he was highly intoxicated and tried to fight people at the party, which took place elsewhere. Eckert had come to her home anyways, removed a screen to her bedroom window and came in, the report said.

The family member told Eckert to leave and another man put him in a headlock. During the scuffle, items in the home were broken. Eckert left, then returned and threatened them.

Several people reported that Eckert had pointed a gun and threatened to kill people, the report said.

Police found and arrested Eckert. He tested 0.15 percent on a portable blood-alcohol test, the report said.

Eckert is being held at Johnson County Jail on $8,700 bond.
