County attorney retiring

The longtime attorney for Johnson County is retiring.

Kathleen Hash’s last day as the county’s top legal counsel is July 5. She has been in the position for more than a decade.

The county commissioners voted on Tuesday to hire Shena Johnson as her replacement. Johnson is currently the county’s assistant attorney. She will start as the county attorney on July 8.

The salary is budgeted at $88,422 in 2019.

The county is currently seeking a replacement for Johnson and has the job listing posted on the county’s website. The county attorney represents the county in legal matters, including contracts and in court, and ensures county adherence to laws.

Hash began working for the county in 1997 as a deputy prosecutor. She became the county’s attorney in January 2009.
