Johnson County unemployment rate down almost one percent since January

<p>The Johnson County unemployment rate is down almost one percent since January, and the state rate is down even more.</p><p>The unemployment rate in Johnson County fell from 3.3 percent at the end of January to 2.5 percent in May. During the same time frame, the overall jobless rate among Hoosiers decreased from 4.1 to 2.9 percent. Overall, almost 80,000 Johnson County residents were employed in May, compared to about 2,000 who were unemployed.</p><p>The Johnson County rate is up slightly from April, during which 2.4 percent of residents were unemployed, but is down from May 2018, when 2.7 of Johnson County residents found themselves without a job.</p>[sc:text-divider text-divider-title="Story continues below gallery" ]Click here to purchase photos from this gallery<p>The statistics come from the May report released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. Johnson County is tied with Hendricks County for the third-lowest unemployment rate in Johnson County. It trails Boone and Hamilton Counties, which both have 2.3 percent of their workforce unemployed.</p><p>Johnson County is tied for the 18th lowest unemployment rate in Indiana out of 92 counties.</p>
