Woman arrested after fighting with officers, kicking, punching dog

<p>A Rochester woman was arrested after she fought with officers and kicked and punched a K9 in a park in Greenwood.</p><p>Stephanie Elizabeth Carpenter, 29, 1315 1/2 Main St., was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement, battery on a public safety officer, mistreatment of a law enforcement dog and multiple out-of-county warrants.</p><p>About 4:25 a.m. Thursday, a Greenwood police officer saw a vehicle pull into Westside Park in Greenwood, which was a violation of a local ordinance, according to a report from the Greenwood Police Department.</p><p>The officer found that Carpenter, the vehicle’s passenger, was wanted in another county on charges of possession of methamphetamine and resisting law enforcement. When the officer asked Carpenter to get out of the vehicle, she jumped into the car’s backseat and left the vehicle through the back door on the driver’s side, the report said.</p><p>Carpenter ran north with two officers chasing her and telling her to stop. She tripped over a curb and resisted when officers tried to place her in handcuffs, according to the report.</p><p>An officer used his taser on her twice, but she continued to fight. Carpenter grabbed an officer’s handcuffs during the altercation and kicked an officer’s leg multiple times while officers were working to get her to release the handcuffs, the report said.</p><p>A K9 unit responded and bit her on the her leg after she was warned to stop resisting. Carpenter then punched and kicked the animal, the report said.</p><p>The fight continued until Carpenter surrendered.</p><p>She was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where she is held without bond.</p>
