Woman in critical condition after accidental shooting in Franklin

A woman was in critical condition at an Indianapolis area hospital after a gun she was handling discharged at a home in Franklin.

Police were called to the 5500 block of East County Road 100 North on Thursday afternoon on a report of a person shot.

The woman was handling a gun when she was having trouble pulling the slide back, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman handed the gun to a man in the home, who pulled the slide back. The gun then discharged and the woman was shot in the stomach, the report said.

The woman said she believed that the gun was not loaded while she was handling it, the report said.

She was taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition late Friday morning.
