Gateway needs volunteers for lemon shake-up stand

A Franklin non-profit agency that makes lemon shake-ups at the Johnson County Fair needs more volunteers to prepare the supplies for the drink and staff the booth.

Since 1972, Gateway has had a booth at the fair, where volunteers come together to squeeze lemons and shake them, raising money for Access Johnson County and Gateway Services, Inc., which provides transportation services to people with disabilities. The effort takes hundreds of volunteers, according to a news release from the agency.

The organization is hosting a squeeze-a-thon at 8:30 a.m. July 12, at First Christian Church 101 East St., Bargersville. Volunteers would squeeze juice from lemons to prepare to make the drinks at the fair.

They also still need three shifts filled during the Johnson County fair. Each shift needs eight to 10 volunteers. The available shifts are as follows: 3 to 7 p.m. July 16; 7 to 11 p.m. July 16; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 19.

For more information, contact Becky Allen at 317-738-5500 or [email protected].
