Lifelong resident named to Edinburgh’s town council

A lifelong Edinburgh resident won a seat on the town council by way of a recent caucus.

Debbie Buck, 57, was recently elected by four precinct committeemen to take the seat vacated by Bill Jones.

Jones had resigned his seat effective July 1. The county’s Republican Party conducted the caucus late last month to fill Jones’s seat.

Buck has spent her entire life in Edinburgh and is a human resources supervisor at Sonoco Flexible Packaging in Edinburgh.

Initially, three people filed for the seat, but one person withdrew his application before the caucus, said Beth Boyce, Johnson County Republican Party chairwoman.

The caucus went through four rounds of voting before Buck was able to snag a majority of the votes, Boyce said.

She was sworn in immediately.
