Man arrested after attempting to rob a White Castle

A Greenwood man was arrested after he attempted to rob a Greenwood White Castle with a note and indicating that he had a weapon.

Andrew Lee Keller, 25, 1295 Osprey Way, Greenwood, was arrested on a charge of robbery. Police said he was inside the restaurant for about 30 minutes, waited for it to empty and told a cashier that they were being robbed.

No one was hurt and no money was stolen.

Police were dispatched to the restaurant at 105 Sheek Road at 4:48 p.m. Sunday to a report of a robbery that involved a note and the mention of a weapon, according to a report from the Greenwood Police Department.

Another officer had found Keller before the responding officer had arrived at the restaurant, according to the report.

The cashier told police that Keller came to the counter and mumbled something that the cashier was not able to understand. He then said he was a nice guy, didn’t want to hurt anyone and had a weapon, the report said.

Keller pushed his phone toward the cashier and the cashier read a message with the same information, including that the restaurant was being robbed and that he wanted money from the cash register and the safe, according to the report.

The cashier told police that she walked to the back of the restaurant and other employees began to escape out of the back door, the report said.

Surveillance footage of the incident showed Keller exiting the restaurant without money.

Police officers stopped Keller after he left the restaurant and he had a knife. He told police he was hungry and had planned to go to other restaurants to ask for money, but decided to rob the White Castle.

He was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $3,300 bond.
