Franklin swimmers score at junior nationals

Franklin’s Cade Oliver and Jacob Destrampe each advanced into evening finals at the Speedo Junior National Championships on Friday.

Oliver was ninth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter backstroke, hitting the wall in a time of 57.02 seconds. That qualified him for the ‘B’ final, in which he swam a 56.96 to place second in the heat and 10th overall.

Destrampe was 22nd in the 200-meter freestyle preliminaries with a time of 1:53.66, earning a spot in the evening ‘C’ final. He swam a 1:53.36 in that race to move up one spot to 21st.

Both will swim again today.

On Friday night at the National Club Swimming Assocation Junior Nationals in Indianapolis, Franklin junior Kabria Chapman finished seventh in the ‘A’ final of the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 33.53 seconds. Chapman had gone 33.38 in the prelims, good for eighth.

Whiteland lost to Greenfield and host Columbus East on Thursday, posting a team score of 216. Kierra Mitchell led the Warriors with a round of 49.
