Two injured after early morning Franklin crash

Two Johnson County men were taken to an Indianapolis hospital after they were involved in an early morning crash, where one of the vehicles flipped and the other caught on fire.

James M. Finn, 32, Greenwood, was traveling south in the left lane of U.S. 31 near Branigin Road in Franklin at a high rate of speed early Tuesday morning, according to a report from the Franklin Police Department. The crash was reported at 1:41 a.m. Tuesday.

Steven Clark, 61, Franklin, had began driving south after being stopped at the stop light at U.S. 31 and Branigin Road when Finn’s vehicle hit the back of Clark’s vehicle. The impact caused Clark’s vehicle to be pushed side ways, where it flipped and then landed back on the tires, according to the report.

Once the vehicle landed, it rolled forward, hit a street sign and then rolled into a ditch. Finn’s vehicle caught fire, the report said.

Both drivers needed assistance to leave their vehicles and were taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Clark was treated and released. Finn was still being treated as of late Tuesday morning.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
