<p>An art teacher is the featured artist of a Greenwood art group.</p>
<p>The Southside Art League’s featured artist for September is Beverly S. Mathis. She grew up on the southside of Indianapolis, graduated from Herron School of Art and became an art teacher in Indianapolis for five years.</p>
<p>She can’t remember when she didn’t have a passion for art and teaching, according to a news release from the group.</p>
<p>Her painting style includes traditional subjects, detail, textures and clear colors. She also has been known to hide scriptures in some of her paintings. She has won numerous awards for her art and teaches watercolor classes at Southside Art League.</p>[sc:text-divider text-divider-title="Story continues below gallery" ]
<p>Her paintings will be on display during the month of September with a reception Sept. 15 at 299 E. Broadway St., Greenwood.</p>
