Child breaks leg in dirt bike accident

An eight-year-old boy broke his leg in Bargersville when he fell off a dirt bike.

The accident occurred about 4:20 p.m. Saturday, when a Johnson County boy tried to operate a Honda CFR dirt bike. While trying to ride the bike, he lost control and fell on private property near the 6000 block of 375 North, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The boy, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in Indianapolis, according to the release.

Bargersville police and emergency medical services responded to the scene. Indiana Conservation officers recommend safety equipment and the proper training, such as off-road vehicle operational classes in the case of a dirt bike, before operating vehicles, according to the release.
