Investigation into baby’s death ongoing

The investigation into a baby’s death in Franklin is ongoing, and the infant’s cause of death may not be known for weeks.

Eight-week-old Kensli Deese died on Sept. 17. Police and medics were called to her babysitter’s home in the Pennington Mobile Home Park due to the baby not breathing.

An autopsy was conducted, but the coroner is waiting on toxicology reports before making a determination on the cause of death. Those reports will take at least four to six weeks, Johnson County Coroner Craig Lutz said.

The autopsy found no evidence of physical injuries or trauma, according to a news release from the Indiana State Police.

No one has been arrested or charged in connection with the death.

The Indiana State Police are treating Deese’s death as a death investigation and has not determined whether the death was due to an accident or homicide, for example, said Sgt. John Perrine, spokesperson for the Indiana State Police.

The official cause of death, once released, will help police with the nature of the investigation, Perrine said.

The investigation was turned over to the Indiana State Police because a Franklin police officer is related to the baby sitter.
