The clerk-treasurer of Prince’s Lakes isn’t running for another term, but both newcomer candidates have years of banking experience they said has prepared them for the job.
Republican Erica Giger won the primary race over Hope Nutt with 51.5 percent of the vote. Giger spent nine years in banking. Giger will take on Independent challenger Rosemarie Yates, who worked at Franklin Bank for eight years. Both candidates are seeking office for the first time.
The clerk-treasurer manages the town’s finances, which has a population of about 1,340 residents. The clerk-treasurer pays the town’s bills, collects fees and keeps the town’s record. The job pays $50,088.
“I am running because I want to help out my community and be part of what helps the town work,” Giger said. “The clerk-treasurer is not running again, and that’s when I decided to run. I wanted to make sure the town stays on budget.”

The current clerk-treasurer, Karen Harrison, isn’t running again because she is seeking a seat on the town council.
Yates is a longtime Prince’s Lakes resident and enjoys working in finance, she said.
“I’ve lived there almost all my life, so I thought it would be nice to try and do the best I can,” Yates said. “I am a very hardworking person … I’m very honest and I’ve been in jobs of confidentiality. I know how important that is.”
Voters can start casting their ballots when early voting starts on Oct. 21. Election Day is Nov. 7.
