County budget set

Johnson County will spends tens of millions of dollars on wages, office supplies and other expenses next year.

County officials adopted the 2020 budget, which calls for more than $35 million dollars in spending from the county’s general fund.

All present county council members approved the budget Monday night. Pete Ketchum was absent.

The county’s general fund goes toward about 43 departments, which includes the sheriff’s office, jail, courts, 911 dispatch center, Johnson County Museum of History and dozens of others.

Most of those tax dollars will pay salaries, with most of the county’s nearly 500 employees getting at least 5 percent raises, while employees in some departments are getting raises of 9 percent or more.
