Franklin man killed in moped crash

A Franklin man was killed after a vehicle struck his moped early Friday.

Matthew Aaron Frye, 50, of Franklin was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred about 6 a.m. in the 5700 block of U.S. 31 in Franklin, near the Hilltop Motel.

Frye was driving a moped southbound in the right lane when the driver behind him switched lanes. A second driver then switched lanes but didn’t see the moped driver and struck him, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Frye was traveling to his job just south of the accident site. The driver who struck Frye wasn’t speeding and alcohol wasn’t involved, according to the news release.

The driver who struck Frye wasn’t injured, but was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for a blood draw. The driver is not facing charges and cooperated with investigators, Sheriff Duane Burgess said.

Amity Fire Department and Seals Ambulance Service also responded, the news release said.
